伊藤卓美 - Itow Takumi

伊藤卓美の木版画は民俗芸能に魅せられその保存・記録を思い立った所からはじまる。木版画ならその感動が表現出来るのではと思い制作、以後ライフワークとなっている。

『宮澤賢治』は子供の頃からの愛読書で、その世界観・知識に大きな影響を受けている。一生追い続けても追いつかない良き師であり、存在である。その世界の表現を木版画で試みたいと思っている。

その他では、旅先での日記代わりのスケッチから生まれた風景版画、好きな花の版画、家族の肖像と称して少し楽しく遊んだ鯨の版画、郷土玩具の版画、野仏の版画等がある。　

　技法としては素朴な味を出す単色系と色彩を重視する多色系のほか「金唐革紙」の箔や空摺りの応用等色々と試みている。その他では木版による限定本・歌留多・蔵書票の制作、豪徳寺の招き猫の古型再現等がある。

　作品制作の手引き書の出版や木版画のカルチャー教室も開設、伝統ある木版画文化の広い普及に努めている。このように多岐にわたる興味の広がりが「木版画」を通しての表現となっているのが伊藤卓美の作品です。日本語版はこちらへ。

Itow Takumi is president of the Japanese Print Society and a leading contemporary Japanese printmaker. His style builds upon traditional Japanese Ukiyo-e woodblock printing aesthetics and fuses them with the priciples of the modern Sosaku Hanga movement where the prints are self-designed, self-carved, and self-printed.

Born in Miyagi Prefecture in northern Japan, many of Itow’s woodblock prints explore the world of local Matsuri festivals and Japanese Mingei folk crafts as well as the literature of the Japanese author Miyazawa Kenji. Inspired by the beauty and his love for these things, his prints evoke the playful spirit of Japanese Ukiyo-e woodblock printing. In addition, his prints of Japanese landscapes and wild flowers express the warm feelings of the Japanese countryside.

Itow’s prints have been exhibited around the world, including an exhibition every two years at the Odakyu Fine Art Gallery in Shinjuku, Tokyo. His prints of Japanese Matsuri Festivals have been featured in exhibitions at the Library of Congress and the Peabody Essex Museum as well as on Japan Post postage stamps.
